Things we do + things that are cool

February’s MSG: The Candy Lectures

hellomsg:

Here’s all you really need to know about the next MSG lecture on Tuesday, February 28: we’re talking about candy, you get to eat some, and it’s free.

All you have to do is show up at Public Assembly at 7pm and hang out while we fill your brains with delicious candy facts and your mouths with candy (and booze). We’ll love you even more if you RSVP on Facebook so we have plenty of samples.

*Want more details?

Sarah will talk about ancient candies with a connection to the present day: from the first sweet treats in Asia to the development of confections like Halvah, we’ll explore the story of candy from pre-history to Marshmallow Peeps.

Meanwhile, Soma will unravel the science behind all your favorite niche candy and show you how to whip up cunning imitations at home. From the explosive power of Pop Rocks and the spicy burn of Atomic Fireballs to the sour rush of Warheads and the soothing coolness of Orbit gum - it’s chemistry vs candy!

*Wondering what the hell MSG is in the first place? (Not monosodium glutamate!)

It’s our new bar room lecture series on food, where each month Sarah Lohman of Four Pounds Flour and Jonathan Soma of the Brooklyn Brainery take on a topic and cover it from all angles. We’re hosted by the awesome Public Assembly, located in Williamsburg.

So, to recap:
Tuesday Feburary 28, 7pm
Public Assembly, 70 North 6th Street, Williamsburg (off the Bedford L)
The only excuse for not coming is that you hate fun
